Don’t forget that spring car care, especially if you’re planning a road trip.
While we were hunkered down at home because of COVID-19, spring came and now it's almost gone. Summer will officially be here later this month. That's the cue for many people to hit the road, whether it's a quick day trip to Devil’s Lake State Park, or a longer journey, it will be especially good to get away.
Springtime is also a good time to give your car a once over to make sure it got through the winter unscathed and to prepare it for the upcoming hotter weather. Springtime car care is especially important this year to make sure your car is ready for any impromptu road trips you might take just to get away from it all and to see some different scenery.
Desjardins Insurance offers these tips to help make sure your car is fit for the upcoming season:
Switch out those winter tires for a set of summer or all-weather tires.
"Surprisingly enough, many people don’t even bother removing their winter tires. While these are ideal for winter weather conditions, winter tires actually compromise traction on dry and wet roads. Wash your winter tires thoroughly, removing leftover salt stains, then make sure to store them in a cool and dry place," Desjardins says. "If your car’s sporting all-season tires, it’s wise to check their pressure and tread – if you notice any uneven wear, you may need to get them aligned. If this past winter has been especially hard on your tires, it may be time to abandon them altogether in favor of new ones. Remember: safe tires mean safe driving – skimping on new tires now could put you in serious danger down the road."
Check your battery.
Check your brakes.
Make sure your headlights work and your windshield wipers aren't worn.
Change your oil and check your fluids.
The best person to check these systems is an expert auto care technician. If you don't have a regular auto care pro you can trust, then it's time to call the reliable auto care experts at one of Madison Auto Care’s seven NAPA service centers: Clausen Auto, Handel Auto, Genin’s Auto, Capitol Tire, Odana Tire, Hansen’s Auto, or Aeschbach Auto.
