Tires getting worn? They’ll tell you why. The tire specialists at Madison Auto Care's seven NAPA service centers can help.

Between snow flurries and icy cold temperatures, the last thing you want to do is deal with tire problems. But that seems to be where you’re at. When you got out of your car yesterday, you noticed that your tires looked worn.

It’s really frustrating because your tires aren’t that old and you haven’t been driving a lot in the winter weather. And you don’t feel the tires should be showing wear yet.

Why Would My Tires be Prematurely wearing?

It could be something else that is causing the wear. So, take a look at your tires and the wear pattern might tell you, according to tirereview.com:

First, overinflation.

This may be easy to spot. Because, usually, there are clues in the center of the tread pattern. Too much air pressure can cause the contact patch to shrink and the center of the tire to carry all of the load. So, on the tire, its sipes and grooves will be worn in the center.

What about underinflation?

Tire wear on the edges of a tire can be a sign that inflation pressures are lower than specified. And when a tire is underinflated, the contact patch grows and the load is carried by the outside edges of the patch. So, in this case, the center is less worn.

What Else Can Can Cause Early Tire Ware

Another common tread wear pattern is inner edge wear. And this can be caused by three component of your car: bushings, springs and loads. Also irregular tread wear, like outer edge wear can be caused by the thrust and setback. And finally, premature tire ware could be caused by a vehicle axle issues. But, if all t his is too much to remember, or you don’t feel as if you’ll know what you’re looking at, consult the experts at Madison Auto Care Centers.
